The book not only explores the role of love in our lives and the ways our culture has distorted its meaning, but guides us — with clear definitions and examples — toward a better understanding of how to cultivate it. If you've ever wondered why some relationships stand the test of time while others crumble, you should read this book. The Name of the Wind was well-written, well structured, and makes a cliched story into one that has some depth and creativity. Having said that, the second book in the series is not as good by half, and succumbs in a lot of places to the tropes it was trying to deconstruct in the first place!

Winter Garden, by Kristin Hannah Home Front, by Kristin Hannah All the Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafón Everyone Brave Is Forgiven, by Chris Cleave The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak The Girl in the Blue Coat, by Monica Hesse The Invisible Bridge, by Julie Orringer At the Water’s Edge, by Sara Gruen. The movie's title, "The Wind Cannot Read," supposedly comes from an old Japanese proverb: "The sign says, 'Do not pick these blossoms,' but the wind cannot read." I'll buy it.

The blossom here is the ingratiating Yoko Tani, the picker is Dirk Bogarde, the wind is love, and the sign is Tani's increasingly severe headaches.
